Cuba’s capacity to resist in the current geostrategic context

March 7, 2026

The survival of the Cuban revolution in the face of the onslaught of Donald Trump’s government is one of the vital questions of today’s geopolitics and especially for Our America.

Cuba has been able to overcome very critical moments, such as the well-known special period it faced due to the disappearance of the socialist bloc. However, taking into consideration and crossing various variables, the question is: How critical is the current situation compared to other historical moments?

Trump, emboldened by his victory in Venezuela, has expressed that Cuba will also fall and promises the collapse of the Cuban regime, highlighting the great pressure it is exerting on the island and boasting that the supply of Venezuelan oil to Havana has been cut off and at the same time tendentiously points out that we are negotiating with Cuba, poorly concealing his aspiration to repeat the Venezuelan script, that is, to win the war without firing a shot, using the old trick of internal betrayal and the huge wallet.

By the way, it is interesting to bring up the recent comment made by the Chinese People’s Liberation Army on the aggression of the US and Israel against Iran, I highlight two points: a) Most lethal threat: The internal enemy, b) Most costly calculation: Blind faith in peace.

Cuba has factors that will allow it to resist, albeit at a humanitarian cost, but this is not unlike what the proud and brave Cuban people have suffered.

Onslaught: Maximum Pressure Strategy

Trump has launched what can be described as a total siege designed to bring the Cuban economy to the brink of collapse in the shortest possible time, with the oil blockade being the centerpiece of that strategy, in this sense the control that the US has taken over Venezuelan oil, added to the threat of placing tariffs on countries that sell oil to Cuba.  seeks the energetic suffocation of the island. Let us remember that Cuba imports about 60% of the oil it needs.

On the other hand, the displays of aggressiveness of its foreign policy, such as the kidnapping of President Nicolás Maduro and the aggression against Iran, are projected to send a warning message to Cuba and Washington’s willingness to use force. But the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Cuba (FAR) are not the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (FANB) of Venezuela, which should stop calling itself Bolivarian. The FAR and the Cuban people have shown enough signs of being brave in history, so the threat of force does not work in this case.

At the same time, diplomatic pressure remains unchanged. Trump has expressed his wet dream of a friendly takeover by calling Cuba an unusual and extraordinary threat, paving the way for more economic and military siege.

Resistance: Factors that work in Cuba’s favor

Despite this unprecedented harassment, Cuba is not defenseless and has friends in the world. Their survival will depend on their ability to activate various lines of defense. Among this, the Cuban government has promoted its diplomacy that has generated results in terms of concrete support and solidarity. We are not going to list them because it would extend this article too much.

But above all, the Cuban resistance is manifested in its enormous capacity for internal resilience and ingenuity to generate new dynamics. In this framework, expanding its MSME economy will contribute to that, in general one could think of a hybrid or more sophisticated economic system, maintaining the fundamental pillars. The historical nationalism of the Cuban people has also turned U.S. coercion into a factor of political cohesion.

The Yankees with their pressure have historically achieved more unity of the Cuban people in defense of their sovereignty. This was the case when the blockade began in the 1960s, during the missile crisis and in the period of great economic threat after the dissolution of the Soviet Union. That is to say, the pedophile cartel in its ignorance believes that aggravating the economic crisis of the Cuban people guarantees them a political change, this in the Cuban case as in other historical examples, has not happened, nor will it happen.

The multipolar world in force is also a powerful variable that plays in Cuba’s favor. As many analysts have recognized, the US has lost hegemony and its defeat in West Asia will bring its decline closer and closer.

Closing

The Ecuadorian cardboard president to show himself as the best vassal in the region, without any justification and in an arbitrary manner, has broken relations with the sister Republic of Cuba and has expelled all diplomatic personnel. This is part of the naïve attempt to isolate the Cuban government. The relationship of brotherhood between the peoples of Our America, nothing and no one can eradicate them.
