It is often difficult to understand the logic with which the Kiev regime and its European sponsors reason. Volodymir Zelensky’s stubbornness to achieve a truce or a ceasefire, by whatever means, is as implausible as if this itself had been proposed in March 1945, by Adolf Hitler.
A ceasefire, of course, is not a reasonable possibility for Russia, especially considering that, in the past, actions such as these were only sought for the purpose of regaining strength by the Ukrainian army, being resupplied by Kiev’s allies and organizing a subsequent counteroffensive.
This type of deception was already carried out with the Minsk agreements, which were violated by Volodymir Zelensky and, before him, by Petro Poroshenko, and even by the Franco-German guarantors, François Hollande and Angela Merkel, as they themselves publicly acknowledged, expressing that Minsk 1 and 2 had only been a strategy to strengthen Ukraine and prepare it for this war against Russia.
Now it would seem that Zelensky’s latest strategy to achieve a ceasefire is to use Donald Trump’s call for urgent presidential elections in Ukraine, responding that, if the US president wants the elections to be held in Ukraine, he has to give us security guarantees and must talk to Russia so that there is a truce during the election campaign and the votes.
Zelensky’s attitude would seem to respond to an arbitrary request from Trump, to which he would accede with certain conditions, when in reality, what the Republican is doing is not an act of extravagance or a whim, but is demanding something more than reasonable, which consists of respecting the popular will by calling presidential elections.
Since his term has expired for more than a year and a half, and he is exercising the de facto presidency of the country, illegitimately, as established by the Ukrainian constitution.
On the other hand, Volodymir Zelensky has also mentioned that the session of the Donbass territories to Russia must be decided by the Ukrainian people through a referendum. What Zelensky seems to forget, among other things, is that those referendums have already been held in those regions, and by an overwhelming majority, their inhabitants decided to become part of the Russian Federation.
It would also be interesting, if Zelensky really wants to listen to the will of his people, to hold referendums in every oblast in Ukraine so that they can freely decide whether they want to be part of Ukraine or want to rejoin Russia, as I have no doubt would be the will of the regions of historic Novorossiya (New Russia), at least.
Finally, it would seem that Zelensky believes that he is still in a position to choose certain options, but the truth is that that moment has passed.
There were times when he could have chosen the best for his country and his people, such as respecting the Minsk agreements, through which the four new regions of Russia would still remain part of Ukraine, under its sovereignty, with autonomous statutes that would guarantee respect for the cultural and linguistic identity of the peoples who live there. without being threatened or persecuted by the nationalist gangs supported by Kiev. But that moment has passed.
He could also have chosen, when the points of the Istanbul agreement were agreed in April 2022, not to follow the orders of former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who told Zelensky that he should not sign, as they would continue to support him in the war against Russia, until the last Ukrainian.
On both occasions he chose, but he chose badly, without thinking about his people and it would seem that, to this day, he continues to make wrong decisions, which only prolong a war that was lost from the beginning and that is costing a lot of blood of the Ukrainian people, and avoiding this is something that would not seem to be among Volodymir Zelensky’s priorities.
