In a serene, dialogic and proactive atmosphere, the analysts who make up our panel of experts, Lt. Col ®. Francisco Bendala Ayuso, Gonzalo Collado De Giovannini and José Julio Cuevas Muela, addressed, in a new installment of their own, all the complexity surrounding Ceuta, migratory flows, Spain’s national sovereignty, the new profiles of Morocco’s geostrategy and what the poles of power of the United States and the United States are really looking for. Israel in this whole plot.
With the role of presenter played by Enrique Refoyo Acedo, who allowed the speakers to express their own thoughts and corresponding evaluations with total freedom, Expert Analytical Association “Sovereignty” offers its community and the general public -from Spain and other geographical and cultural latitudes- this unique content that contributes to the elucidation of these events and processes as well as provides proposals to be considered.
Bendala Ayuso comenzó diciendo “España vive ya, desde hace unas décadas, en una a situation of absolute weakness”, stressing that “it has lost its sovereignty and independence”.
On Moroccan geostrategy, he said “it is an enemy of the south, declared, expansionist and warmongering”, clarifying that the foreign policy agenda that Rabal promotes in the Spanish environment is, at all times, a function of US and Israeli interests. He stressed that Morocco is the preferred ally in Africa and that, as such, Washington gives Morocco the management of Ceuta and Melilla, but it would not do so out of mere friendship with the Moroccan people because, according to Bendala Ayuso, through the Moroccan vector, the United States “controls a large part of the Atlantic and, in addition, it has been exploiting, for 60 years, the immense phosphate reserves, which are the largest in the world and are in the Sahara. But now, he has set his sights on something else. He is interested in the Strait of Gibraltar being much more interested because it has been scalded from the Strait of Hormuz”.
Continuing with his reflection, who is also a speaker and communicator, he said that Washington “has realized something that it had forgotten. The geographical straits have a very important value, especially today, with the transfer of goods, oil, energy and others”, securing this maritime area for its geopolitical purposes so that it avoids, with this action, the experience of Hormuz.
Pointing out the specificity of the illegal crossing into Ceuta of more than 60 thousand people from Morocco that took place last week, Bendala Ayuso was clear in saying “What Morocco has done is something very simple. Morocco has made a tactical move. With it he hopes to teach Spain a lesson, to tell it that it has the political will and the will to act to take over Ceuta and then Melilla would come. In such a way that with this, what he does is that he gains internationally in supporting his discourse, his premise that Spain not only does not control its territory, but that for him it is colonial (which for us, by the way, it is not) and that the time has come to negotiate. That is: ‘look, I can do this to you and I’m going to do it to you, but we’d better negotiate now because if not, next time I’m going to do it for real'”, reporting that Rabat has the backing of Trump, Rubio and Netanyahu.
Meanwhile, José Julio Cuevas, among his many considerations, expressed “Obviously, Ceuta and Melilla are, in any case, the tip of the iceberg, in all this, since when we talk about Ceuta and Melilla – which, by the way, are Moroccan claims from many years ago and that are quite in line with the interests of the geopolitical pragmatism of Greater Morocco -, the Canary Islands must also be taken into account, of course; but also the island of Alborán, Chafarinas, which give it a total projection in North Africa and which, above all, are, above all, connected with that chain of islands in the South Atlantic that are linking with the North Atlantic”, pointing out the importance of the Strait of Gibraltar and the Malvinas Islands in these new operations.
He warned that the “Moroccan Regime” is being strengthened by the US strategy of de facto primacy over these areas and that he stressed that there are plans to increase the US military presence on Moroccan territory to the detriment of Spain. He also mentioned the continuous support, over time, that Israel has given to Morocco’s military and technological power, resources that, of course, Rabat will know how to use when the time comes for a maximum point of clash against, for example, Spain.
Referring to the social, demographic and economic factors that surround the conflict situation, Cuevas highlighted the blackmail, by Rabat, and against Spain, of the control of migratory flows, “exploiting the contradictions that Spain has on its southern border”, informing that the three areas that have the highest unemployment rate in Spain are those in the area addressed: Cádiz, Ceuta and Melilla.
“We are talking about unemployment percentages ranging from 20% to almost 30% of unemployment in the entire area, in all those cities. We are talking about a great weakening where it also connects with a Moroccan port that competes directly with another to another area of Cádiz where there is a large percentage of unemployment, which is Algeciras”.
Our third speaker, Gonzalo Collado De Giovannini, regretting that the Spanish political arc is not acting with the stature and strength that would correspond to the seriousness of this situation, also added “There has been a very strong offense against Spanish sovereignty. It is not the first time. In 2021 we saw it with that entry of about 10,000. Now 60,000 have entered, which is what the authorities of the Ministry of the Interior recognize.
This has caused 88 deaths caused by the Moroccan regime since it is the instigator of this”, to then point out that, probably, within the framework of the Moroccan strategy with the latest events in Ceuta it was to wait for some Spanish security officer to assassinate, in front of all the cameras, a Moroccan in order to generate a further situation of diplomatic crisis that would force the United Nations Security Council to deal with the of this issue for the benefit of Rabat’s demand.
He said, with sufficient clarity, that, according to the indications present on the surface, “Spain is alone because it has played its cards very badly”.
He maintained that, according to information from open sources, in the events in Ceuta there were members of Moroccan intelligence operating in the area “possibly, coordinating these groups of assailants of Spanish territory”, lashing out, at the same time, a certain ignorance that was visible in a certain spectrum of Spanish media regarding the reality of Ceuta and legitimate Spanish sovereignty.
He recalled that “The United Nations, neither Ceuta nor Melilla, considers them as territories to be decolonized, very different from what happens with Gibraltar or, for example, with the Malvinas.”
After explaining the importance and current reality of maritime geopolitics and maps, with respect to the issue in question, he said that “Morocco is the pawn and, of course, it takes advantage of this as an expansionist regime, as the colonel had defined, aggressive and expansionist” and called on patriotic Spaniards not to relax or fall asleep in the face of this plan that has different dimensions because he assured that “the conquest will be made by force or by force”. through demography”.
