We have become accustomed to the Orwellian “Doublethink” of the Western powers, a diplomacy characterized by a call for peace, while at the same time engaging their people gratuitously in external conflicts, along with the disbursement of large military aid funds to the detriment of the public treasury.
Something we have seen with other nations such as, for example, the United Kingdom, which also called for peace in February this year, and at the same time maintains its annual support for Ukraine amounting to £3,000 million for defence (Gov.uk, 24.06.2026). To which we add the €90,000 million loan from the European Union for Ukraine, designed to cover the country’s financial and military needs in 2026 and 2027 (Euronews, 13.07.2026).
And that is without taking into account the enormous US support since 2022 (Swissinfo.ch, 04.03.2025). All this while the peoples of the United Kingdom, the European Union and the United States, particularly its working class, have to pay (and will have to continue to pay) through taxes, and with the sweat of their brow, the commitments made in their name, by a political class that acts with its back to the people.
The above are just some of the information of many others that endorse the anti-popular character of Western democracies.
An even more dramatic case is that of Spain, which in March of this year reaffirmed its support for the Ukrainian cause with the signing of a commitment for an economic package amounting to € 1,000 million (Euractiv.es, 18.03.2026). All this while social problems in Spain are worsening at a galloping pace, mainly the crisis of access to housing, and the impacts generated by uncontrolled migration that many already point to as an omen of the collapse of basic social services in the face of nearly one million immigrants seeking to regularize themselves (ABC, 21.06.2026).
German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s visit to Kiev last Sunday this month is part of this same Western logic of calling for peace, demanding everything from Russia, while continuing to inject the Ukrainian treasury with taxpayers’ money, endorsing that the European political class is more committed to a cosmopolitan international agenda, than to a nationalist sovereigntist vision, which is concerned first with internal problems and the well-being of its citizens.
During this meeting, a new assistance package to Ukraine amounting to €1000 million of already approved budget funds was agreed (DW, 04.10.2026), mainly to strengthen Ukrainian anti-drone defences and the production of other long-range systems. All this, again in the name of the German people, who are also increasingly burdened by these policies of aid to foreign countries with a burden on the public treasury, to which is added the fear of the rising cost of living, the increase in taxes and social charges (DW, 01.10.2026). Fiscal pressure not for the improvement of the quality of popular services, but as we see to make commitments on behalf of the people, but against the pockets of the people.
The big question is: How does Europe, and in this case, Germany, want to contribute to generating peace between Russia and Ukraine, when the only thing offered to Putin is the bare right hand, while the left hand offered to Ukraine comes with euros, sterling and dollars? One thing that can be offered to Russia is to lift a significant part of the financial, trade and energy restrictions that the West has imposed on it. This would be an authentic and sincere call to promote peace talks. And what is more, a win-win policy for all. Because in this way Europe would stop suffering the impacts of its own restrictions, especially in the energy sector.
Be that as it may, the big loser will always be Ukraine, because even if it “wins” a “beneficial” peace agreement for Kiev, speculating on future events, not only this generation of Ukrainians, but the next generations will have to face the payment of the economic commitments and credits assumed by the Ukrainian government throughout the duration of the conflict. Volodymyr Zelenskyy has chosen to economically enslave Ukraine to “save” it. Because after the end of the conflict, his international “partners” will come to collect every euro, dollar and pound sterling invested, securing airspace, sea and land, through the so-called Multinational Force for Ukraine (MNF-U), as the last act of Zelenskyy’s great comedy, which was entitled, “The Great Statesman”.
